ODM’s flagship surf rod, the Evolution, are available only as a custom-built rod, which previously has meant a wait for your rod to be built that would take a couple of months. Grumpys has been making “custom spec” rods built on the ODM Evolution blanks available in the shop that have proven to be very popular “off the rack” options. We are now making them available online.
Unfortunately, due to the shipping costs/restrictions on shipping one-piece rods 96 inches and over, these cannot be shipped. At checkout, please choose “Pick Up” as your delivery option.
First, a little information about the blanks. Evolution combines ODM’s proprietary MMBN (Multi-Modulus Boron Nano) composite nano material which brings strength, precision, unprecedented power to weight ratio, effortless loading, and unloading, all in this highly sensitive and durable precision, weapon of the surf. All Grumpys Custom Spec rods use all Fuji components and are built on chameleon colored rods unless otherwise specified.

- Guides: Fuji Single Foot High Frame K Guides (BC Gray Stainless or Titanium (Silver or Black) available)
- Guide Wraps: Black Thread with Red Trim band (to match the Fuji Perfect Trim Components)
- Reel Seat: Fuji TVS
- Handle: EVA Nubbin Foregrip, Shrink Wrap Rear Grip with comfort grip rear handle bump and trimmed with Fuji Perfect Trim Components
- Note: There are two versions of the 8 foot spec rod. The reel seat NXE-82 will not fit a Van Staal reel. If you plan to use a Van Staal reel, order the NXE-82-VS. The VS version has a larger reel seat and foregrip to accommodate the larger VS reel foot.
